Pine Ridge Archery Club is a very well established field archery club. Sadly the urban sprawl has caught up with us and we have recently relocated after 35 wonderful years at our Redoubt Road property in Manukau City.
We are now based on a beautiful 400 acre sheep farm in Ararimu. The new property is a wonderful mix of rolling hillside and pockets of native bush. There are lovely slow flowing streams and ponds which are home to a great variety of birds and wildlife.
We currently have two Rinehart 3D courses running at the club – one marked and one unmarked, utilising a mixture open fields, ponds and native bush. Both courses are in close proximity to the clubhouse.
Access to the club is via a private driveway at the end of Maddaford Road, Ararimu and a short 5 minute drive from the Ararimu turnoff off the Southern Motorway. The private driveway goes all the way down to the clubhouse and there is ample parking.
Over the coming months the club will be setting up two permanent 28-bale target courses. The unmarked course will consist of commercial animal target faces. As well as requiring good archery skills, an ability to judge distances is essential, but can easily be developed with practice. The marked course will also feature commercial be faces with distances ranging up to 60 yards. In time we hope to set up an “IFAA-type” course with round field and/or hunter style targets with marked distances.
Our courses are shot every Sunday by our members. On the first Sunday of every month there is a competitive monthly competition shoot with friendly rivalry between our members for certificates and an annual ranking. It is not suitable for visitors to attend on these days.
Our club is an active participant in the hugely successful Kiwi 3D Series which is traditionally hosted at North Island archery clubs. The competition is open to all archers and is the largest and most successful shoot in New Zealand archery. We shoot this series over the summer/early autumn months of February/March/April and regularly attract over 120 archers at events.
Pine Ridge is also going to be a participant in another very successful interclub competition, currently run between Franklin, Thames Valley and Lakeview Archery Clubs and we look forward to joining their series in 2017.
Families form the backbone of this club with members as young as 7 years old and there is no top age limit to this sport. All are welcome and the club is open all year round on Sunday mornings. A committee member is on duty on the second and fourth Sunday of every month at 8.45am. These duty officers are able to help you with an introduction to archery. We have equipment available for use free of charge for your first visit and then available for hire after that time. It is recommended that you wear gumboots or hiking boots in winter and spring, and it is essential that juniors under 16 years are accompanied by an adult.
